I have been enjoying Bowness Bakery whole grain rye bread for many years (probably 30 years) and I'm disappointed with the way it has changed lately. It has become quite gritty and crumbly. It almost seems that the whole grain rye seeds that were previously being ground are now are being left intact. Rye is probably very much like flax: it should be ground since the digestive system probably can't break it down. Nutrients and fiber are thereby being missed. The consistency of the bread is also being negatively impacted. Additionally, it's flattened when it arrives to the local retailer in southern BC where I live. It is shipped frozen and it appears that it's stacked before it is completely cool. What was once an excellent bread has become gritty, crumbly and flat. It is no longer the value it once was at now 6 per loaf. If it stays as unsatisfactory as it has become, I will definitely be changing brands. Too bad.

I don't know what Bowness Bakery has done to its Whole Grain Rye bread, but the quality has dropped dramatically over the past month. I have been buying this bread for years, but the last two loaves don't taste the same, and the pieces shrink to about half the size in the toaster. Not only that, but it is now full of preservatives. My last loaf has been sitting on the counter for three weeks without going moldy....the old recipe would last a week. Pease bring back the old recipe!!! I will no longer buy it until it changes back.
I have been buying bowness bakery whole grain rye bread for over 20 years. In the last month The bread tastes different, it’s very crumbly and the bread is smaller, it’s like something is missing possibly something to do with rising. I hope they get this fixed, I’ll have to find a new bread which I do not want to do.
I have bought their whole grain rye bread for years but lately the quality of this product has really gone down. On several occasions over the past months the middle of the loaf has been a crumbled mess that I feed to the birds. I no longer by their products.
I have found this bread to be crumbly and flat lately, not what I'm used to with this brand. Don't know what you've done to it, but it is not the same flavor and texture....too bad.
Their bread is the best, its the only bread I buy. My only complaint is the delivery driver for the south of Calgary. My local grocery stores seem to have a hard time keeping it in the store. Speaking to the store managers, they all stay its due to the delivery driver.
That rye bread is so good. Toasted it with some brushetta I made. Awesome. Super good. Was worth the drive down there. I'll be back.
Changed the lights to led in the building staff was friendly cant complain!
