Before moving to Quinte Gardens we looked at a lot of other options locally, but it was an easy decision to have our mom move here. Compared to all the other homes, we knew this was the right place. Despite its size, there is an undeniable feeling of family and community when you're here. Even the newest building in town couldn't compare to the warmth we felt when working with the Quinte staff. Since settling in, Mom has made new friends, enjoys the food and really loves going for walks in the garden. It has made a huge difference in both of our lives. She is happier and I can sleep at night knowing she's taken care of.

Quinte Gardens was a beautiful home when I was employed there, and the dining service provided to resident’s was fantastic. Unfortunately, there was very little understanding of the importance of infection control at that time, and there was no proper equipment for staff to utilize during emergencies. From a health and safety perspective, there were also serious concerns that there was also no formal fire drill training or other essential training for staff to ensure the safety of resident’s,...I hope this has changed Unfortunately, Quinte Gardens terminated my employment with them for raising health and safety concerns. Other reasons included that I wasn’t the right fit for the home because I “Smile” too much, and me trying to organize a Union at Quinte Garden was not acceptable. I’m happy for the employment experience and the friendships I made ....and I’m still Smiling

I can’t say enough good about the initial experience we have had with the staff at QG! Wow! It’s been a very difficult process helping one’s aging parent choose and get settled into a new place, but Leanne, Kim and Robyn have certainly made this major transition in mom’s life as good as humanly possible. The words Compassionate, Caring, Understanding, Accommodating, Professional & Genuine stand out. I can see it’s not just a job to them! It’s a big thing to trust strangers with the well being of a loved one and from what we have experienced thus far, I can rest in knowing my mom is in good hands. The industry as a whole should take note of them and do their best to reproduce them or at the very least, emulate them and make what they do, the industry standard.

I am currently a housekeeper here at Quinte Gardens and have worked here for approximately 12 years. One of the main reasons I really enjoy my job is there is a real team environment so there are also times that I assist in laundry. We all work together as a team to keep the resident suites clean at the highest standard possible. Understanding that we work in the resident’s home and that this is not just our work place is very important to recognize when working in a retirement residence. There are always good and bad days for people. When you work in housekeeping you bond with the residents and get to hear all of their amazing life stories, what makes them happy or sad, and their careers and different jobs in the past. Some of these stories can be pretty funny too! Making sure that we provide the highest standard of cleaning is very important but also being a listening ear for the residents is important too. This past year certainly has brought challenges that I do not thinking any of us could have imagined with COVID 19. I would not have wanted to work anywhere else as we have all been dedicated to keeping the residence safe, the residents have been amazing and diligent in helping keep each other one safe as well. There are little things every week that bring smiles to everyone’s face, like a resident that loves to bake and give treats to the staff , others love to tell funny stories. It is like a big family. I am proud to come to work everyday and give my 100% dedication to the residents

I have had the privilege of working at Quinte gardens for almost 14 years. I have seen some changes over the years. The major one was the expansion of the second phase from 4th to the 7th floor and the installation of the beautiful salt water pool that our residents absolutely love! Quinte Gardens is a pretty active place with residents coming and going to different activities and to and from the large garden we have! I love it when I come into work and get a friendly “good morning”, “have a great day”. It is such a family atmosphere and so nice to talk to the residents and have that warm feeling of the residents sharing their home with us. Residents love to tell us a story or two and a few are quiet the jokesters too. We even have some residents that love to use the resident craft kitchen and if you are lucky they might give you a baked good fresh out of the oven! We always tell them no it is okay but you know what it was like with your Grandparents, the residents insist just like that! I work in the laundry department. I find this very rewarding when residents bring me stained clothing, they say they can’t get out and ask me to “do your magic” , they are so funny! I work hard to meet all of their laundry needs. I help out when I can with housekeeping, janitorial or even delivering of parcels or flowers that arrive for them. I enjoy all different jobs here. I get to meet all the residents and be part of the entire community we have here. No job is too less for anyone, we are a team. I enjoy coming to work every day because if you have something on your mind there is always a smile, story for you. We are all family when I walk through the door.
