Perhaps the least helpful hardware store in eastern Ontario, which puts it in the running for least helpful province-wide. The cashiers are friendly enough. But the guys at the contractor desk couldn't be more hostile, condescending, or unwilling to answer questions. And this isn't based on a single visit. I shopped there at least a dozen times while renovating my house this summer. My last experience: I needed more of an Alexandria Moulding wall panel, which I had bought from this Home Hardware earlier in the season and which they no longer had in stock. The website specifically says the item could be reordered. But according to our friendly neighbourhood contractor desk, that would require sending somebody to pick up my order from the manufacturer, which is literally down the street, and there was no way they'd expend the effort. That was after they passed me through four other people to answer my question, some of whom refused to speak English to me. I expect this kind of service in rural Quebec, where I grew up. I thought I'd escaped it when I moved to Ontario. Such is the advantage of being the only game in town: You don't have to try very hard. Trust me when I say, these guys don't try at all.

Unhelpful, hostile, condescending service desk clerk. I simply tried to describe a part I was looking for. He even hung up on me before I could say : Have a nice day.

So we only have one hardware/lumber store in all of Alexandria (unless you consider Canadian Tire a hardware store). Anyways, the lady working in the garden area was super nice and helpful. She's got an extra awesome Camaro also. If you go there and meet her, she's super amazing. Staff like that will keep people coming back. It's a great place to shop and we will keep going back. Unless I need something they don't carry.

Staff is generally friendly but this does seem to vary quite a bit. They accept Aeroplan but if you do not remind them they will not tell you. Would be good if they were more pro-active on this.
