We took the 5:55 pm ferry from Sidney to Anacortes on a calm and sunny day. The ferry arrived late so we had quite a delay right from the start. I can't really understand how this can happen in on a calm day with no waves or wind at all... anyway, no one even mentioned the delayed departure (it was more than 30 minutes actually). Embarking the RV on the ship was no problem. The ferry offers a lot of seats with good view from inside and has some outer decks to enjoy the nice weather during the transfer. Unfortunately the food and beverage offer is quite poor. You have the choice between 3 different soups and some burgers - none of these really looked enjoyable. The passage however take you through a beautiful landscape and with some luck you could see seals (we did see 3 of them) and dolphins (we actually saw two of them swimming by). The ferry stops at Friday Harbour and the disembarking of the people and vehicles there took more than half an hour, due to the badly organized customs control. This added quite a lot of time to the delay we already had so that instead of arriving at 8:30 pm, we arrived in Anacortes at about 9:30 pm (!) and still had to wait for custom control there. No one actually apologized for the delay or said anything about then we are going to arrive. This was quite annoying, since we hat to reach a place that closed at 10 pm. So you might want to consider a possible delay even when the weather is nice.

Is really nice on summer
Not a bad ferry service best way to go to get of the island to go to Seattle or are nice staff old boats and don’t have all the top of the line stuff but they do the job they had puzzles to keep you occupied .
What a wonderful journey. We were a 52ft truck and trailer with a three legged dog. The staff were all over themselves helpful and our faithful friend was even allowed up on the outside decks. So nice to be able to enjoy a beer during our three hour journey including a stop at Friday Harbour.
Be forewarned that once you enter for travel to the US, you cannot leave. You are stuck there behind a cyclone fence with nothing but a gift shop with VERY limited food options (bad coffee, stale pastries, etc) and a few picnic benches. And they suggest you get there pretty early. Best bet is to have the sacrificial driver get there when they suggest and the rest of the family hang out in nearby Sidney and walk over before the ferry leaves as walk-ons. That way at least some people get to have a nice meal, pleasant ambience, etc. I've not tried this, so look into the details, but I think that would work.
