Loved the ride over to Victoria. Easy walk on, both ways. Customs wasn't too bad, as they moved us through at a decent pace. Would love a second ferry to be added to give more available times per day, for those driving up from Tacoma area.

Actually, the ship and service are not so important as traveling by the sea. Yes, cafeteria food is overpriced and not of the choicest brand but it is not a big deal. Beautiful view, fresh winds, high speed are worthy of greater attention.

Very organized boarding process. We followed the recommended check in time and arrived an hour before boarding at Port Angeles but saw lot of people were already there. We took the evening 05:30pm ferry. The boarding started exactly at 05:00 as it was mentioned on the website and ferry departed at exact 05:20. Ride is about one and a half hour long. De boarding took about 30 for all the cars to get out. Black Ball’s process was organized and staff was working hard to get people in and out as quickly as possible. So did the immigration officers. While on board they have restaurant and duty free shop running, there is plenty of indoor outdoor seating. It gets windy so bring some warm cloths with you. While coming back, US does a pre-immigration check at Victoria itself and that is why they recommend everyone to arrive 90minutes early. Overall I enjoyed the ride and the service.

Pretty old ship and not as nice as the BC Ferry's but it's the only way to get to Victoria from Port Angeles work a car so I'm grateful for that. Reasonable price too at 66 (if memory serves me correctly...). They layout at Port Angeles is terrible though. Most cars need to clear customs before there is room to start loading outgoing cars on to the ferry again.

Gets you to where you want to go. The coho ferry has been around since the 1950’s. the boat gets retrofitted every year, so there is no worries about it breaking down in the middle of the ocean. It’s a simple ship with a small gift store and cafeteria for those who just need to shop. The food selections can be rough sometimes in terms of being under a hot lamp during the sailings, best to get your hot dogs and snacks early to avoid stale food. The seating is pretty good, as there are tables in the middle of the ship for families that need to spread out, and seating up at the front for those that just need a simple spot to sit back and relax or work. Keep in mind that it is an older ship so don’t expect that latest in seating technology. But, the wifi on the ship has improved since the last time I have been on. It’s faster than BC ferries now. Mind you, that’s not tough to do, as it seems like Bc ferries runs on dial up that attached to the mainland somehow. I do enjoy taking a relaxing break from inside the ship and walk around the outside of the boat to take in the amazing views you will get going through the inlet between Victoria and Port Angeles. If you hit the season right, you may get a killer whale pod following the boat which is fantastic for anybody who have seen whales before or first time. Side note: this boat rocks when the winds are high. It’s a safe ship, and there is nothing to worry about, but in events where the seas are rough, face forward and keep your eyes on the horizon.
