I have an older Wagner Special upright. Hiroki was initially referred by Piano House —where I purchased piano in 2003, no longer in business in Vancouver. I call him, he answers & gives me a tuning appointment for a date less than 2 weeks ahead. He is very dependable, does a good job on my dearly-beloved piano. It’s reassuring knowing he got his excellent training foundation in Japan—with their national tradition of highest quality standards of craft & workmanship. Harry worked some magic on our spinet piano! We didn't have it inspected before delivery and it was badly out of tune - in some places, more than a quarter step according to Harry. He advised that because of the way spinets are constructed, they're difficult to tune and almost impossible to repair if a string breaks. Worse, to minimize space, they use a drop-action crimp with 3 touch points to hold the strings in place instead of 2 point leverage, like taller pianos. This means that every tuning, and especially a major tuning like this, comes with a higher risk of string breakage. And they don't stay in tune as well. If I'd known all this I'd have gotten a standard piano! We got this one with minimizing space top of mind, for free as we paid delivery, with plans to start our kiddos on lessons in the next year or two. In any event, Harry laid out these options before starting the service, which included cleaning and vacuuming (you provide the vacuum). I decided that if a string broke we'd simply have to scrap it and start fresh. But since he was already here in our place, Harry gave it a try. He gently pulled everything into universal pitch - with no broken strings! Thanks Harry!!
Mr. Uchino fixed the action on my wife's 30 old upright piano, cleaned it and tuned it. It sounds and plays great. He is a master technician who takes his time to make repairs and tune pianos to an exacting standard. Honest and excellent work. You can't go wrong. Thank you!
