May be a little hard to find because it is in a courtyard off off King Street. James Beaty 1798-1892 was a shoemaker, politician, businessman, newspaper publisher, and populist. From the plaque: born in Ireland in 1798, James Beaty immigrated to the United States in 1815. Preferring British rule, he came to Toronto then called Little York with a population of 500 on March 17th 1818. Beaty established a successful Leather and Shoe making business across King Street from this location.
