What can I say about this place- great atmosphere and the city's hidden gem! The food was amazing but the real delight to our taste-buds was the desert !!! We do not know how the desert was was made, as it is not "deep fried ice-cream"...however we could have eaten two more!!! Thank you Leaf for the recommendations to our food choices and amazing service! We will see you again soon!

Recently visited Porto and loved trying the francesinha! So, we came home to Toronto searching for a restaurant that also served the dish. Porta Nova’s specialty dish, the francesinha was tasty, delicious and fantastic! We were so happy to find the dish that brought us back to Porto! Staff was attentive and pleasant! Can’t wait to go back!
I was only there this one time but the steak was amazing and I'm pretty picky about my steaks. The price was all right too. I have gone there a second time and wasn't as impressed as the first time. My Picanha was overdone even though I asked for medium done. A couple of pieces were charcoaled. And yeah, I think I got this end of the cut because I got a bunch of little pieces. Service was pretty crappy this time around. We were there for almost 3 hours. Ordered cheese garlic bread, picanha and lamb chops. They were busy and that I can understand but once we got our food not once did any of the servers come to the table. Even when we were done they would pass by, attend to a couple of other tables (one in particular got quite the attention...) but finally quickly asked if we were done once I looked completely bored! (On purpose) she offered a take out container and brought it over and left. Didn't ask if we wanted dessert, espresso or the bill?! Nothing!!! Waited a bit longer and then just decided to go up to the counter pay and leave. Not a very good dining experience.
Changed management and probably no Portuguese related workers. Ordered the Francesinha and it was not that good. Don't go for it, try something else. The potato chips were good.
My favourite steakhouse in Toronto! The new owners are from Alberta and get the best AAA Canadian beef for the best prices! I always get the 18oz Cowboy Steak on the sizzling hot stone, the Mediterranean salad to share, and the cod cakes to start. And a bottle of Portuguese red wine, all at a lower cost than other "trendy" restaurants. Geary Ave's best kept secret!
I was going to Porta Nova on a regular basis, the place and the prices were great. Since the original owner sold it last year it has never been the same. I live in the area and notice that it is now closed for Restructuring. They should of never tried to fix what's not broken. I am very skeptical about going back when it re-opens. They should get Portuguese people in the kitchen.
We ordered Francesinha dish. It wasn’t bad for tasting Portuguese food for the first time.
