What can I say about my experiences with Birks. If I had to guess, I would think their first interview a question when hiring people is \Do you have the ability to show either complete disdain or indifference to other human beings?\ For some reason higher end brands in North America have used the first clothing store visit from Pretty Woman as their on-boarding videos of what to do. In my experience, high end stores in Europe always treat you with excellence. It doesn't matter who you are, what you wear, or if you tell them you aren't buying. They know part of the brand is the experience. Brands that pay minimum wage have some how managed to provide significantly better customer service. I have never had a positive experience shopping at Birks, this store or online, but my wife likes the products so I kept on buying. My most recent experience was buying an inexpensive jewelry box to house the multiple pieces I have bought from Birks. After weeks of delay, and confirmations that a box would be ordered I was emailed and told that the jewelry box has been replaced with a new model and that I could pay more for it. This is after my purchase was confirmed online, and a phone call a week later confirming. This of course has left me in a scramble that find a new Christmas gift with everything locked down. I will not shop from Birks anymore.

I recently had a very pleasurable on-line experience with Ms R. Da Silva at the Bloor St. Store. My wife lost a 50th birthday Birks custom diamond ring while grocery shopping. I contacted Birks and Ms. Da Silva was able to take the original appraisal certificate, contact their manufacturer, and provide me with a written replacement cost estimate. These actions were over and above what I expected. The insurance company was surprised at the details I was able to provide with a claim. All of which can be attributed to Ms Da Silva. Kudos for your customer service

Terrible customer service. Asked if it is possible customize a piece at the VCA counter. The Iranian Woman Sales not only said it was OK but asked me to pay 100% for another piece, saying she will exchange them when my custom ordered piece arrive. Weeks past without hearing anything from her. I try to contact her, she didn’t reply. In the end I had to find the store manager to get the information that it’s a discontinued piece, and VCA refuses to make it. What an irresponsible sales at Birks, Bloor. If you need to buy anything from Van Cleefs & Apel, VCA, I highly recommend the flagship store VCA at Yorkdale shopping center. They can make your custom piece, unlike the Birks, and the service is much more professional. Stay away from the Bloor Birks, if you don’t want to look for trouble to make your special jewelry purchase experiences terrible!
