This place is undoubtedly one of the most awe inspiring destinations of my lifetime. Having said that - it is also evident that climate change has been devastating for the Athabasca Glacier with grim milestones of its ever shrinking size in the form of year markers from the early 1900s as you trek up to the toe of the glacier. The scenic views coupled with icy winds (which can practically blow you away), crystal clear glacier fed streams and colorful rocks strew the trail leading up to the glaciers toe.

It's interesting. The signs are informative and I like the ones that point out where the glacier was in recent years. I was disappointed that you couldn't get TO the actual glacier (when I was in Iceland you could actually drive on them if you wanted). Very cool sight nonetheless!

It’s amazing! It’s a very windy place and the trail going up is very steep and rocky. But kids over 3 could still walk up to the hill and see the glacier. The walk takes about 10-20 minutes. From the signs along the path you’ll know this glacier is getting smaller and smaller each year. Please do your part to preserve this beautiful scene so our grandkids are able to see it.

We enjoyed the walk. They have a rope fence to block access to the glacier, but many people go past it and it is a easy hike to the glacier itself. Just be careful if you do that. If you're taking a stroller expect to put in a lot of effort to get the stroller uphill over rocks - you need to be decently fit to get a stroller up there. We ended up pulling the stroller backwards. A cheap stroller may not make it up in one piece. We were the only ones with a stroller there.

It’s worth a stop here to see the glacier that’s disappearing fast. It’s a pretty steep uphill trot, about 1/4 of a mile to get to the Viewing area. It’s above tree line so the air is thin. I wanted to touch the glacier but from here you can’t. The only way to be on the actual glacier is to buy a ticket across the street or online and pay 150-180pp to ride the big cool 4x4 buses. It would be a cool experience but we didn’t do that. Get your tickets way ahead of time.

A small easy hike, but maybe I was hoping for more? You don’t get too close to the glacier.

It's a GORGEOUS area, but the trail is not well marked. We actually got quite a ways off trail without meaning to. It might have been due to the snowstorm, but i don't think so. The other thing that is disappointing is that you cannot get to the glacier itself unless you pay (quite a bit) for a guided tour.

Omg! It is spectacular and mind blowing. Cant believe that I was standing on this old grounds that was covered in ice for all these hundred of years.
