Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities Reviews | Rating 4.1 out of 5 stars (5 reviews)

Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities is located in Scarborough, Canada on 4100 Lawrence Ave E. Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities is rated 4.1 out of 5 in the category food bank in Canada. Originally founded in 1977, Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities (SCHC) is one of the most established and comprehensive community health organizations in the province. The organization owes its beginnings to 13 community agencies, a core group of community leaders and countless volunteers who identified emerging health and social needs within Scarborough. After incorporating and acquiring not-for-profit status, the organization piloted initiatives that addressed pressing needs while setting new standards of excellence. These initiatives included Meals-on-Wheels, home support, transportation and family support programs. Like Scarborough, SCHC has experienced immense growth since its inception. Today, we employ approximately 140 staff, engage over 15,000 volunteers and a core group of 350 volunteers. We operate 38 distinct and integrated services across 10 sites that work together to improve the health of our community. In order to remain a client-centred, integrated, engaged and proactive organization, we’ve continued to work closely with our community members, foster partnerships with initiatives that address pressing needs while setting new standards of excellence. We work tirelessly to offer programs and opportunities that profoundly impact the health of the communities we serve.

Some people are getting adequate food and some are not.Essential daily food items must be given to the people in this Covid 19 crises for eg Bread ,cake, eggs, milk, meats, vegetables to cook not cans .Government must stress and force to get profit making groceries stores.

I used to donate my used clothes to Value Village, but I'm so bothered by the idea of the store profiting off my donations, while people in need have to buy these items that should be free! I did some research in my community and found this program. I popped into the clothing drive and was so glad to see that people in need had access to clothing free of charge. This is how it should be. I also walked by the food bank area, and was glad to see people in need getting donations. Is the building falling apart, yes. But we all know the city budget is limited. Unless you want your taxes and donations going to the building rather than the actual program, then relax. The priority is people eating. It's not perfect, but our community is blessed to have a food bank and clothing drive available to people in need. There are a lot of places in the country where this is not an option and people literally go hungry. If you have good quality donations (food or clothes), there is a massive need here. Support your community!

This is a very dilapidated building. We went to volunteer at the food bank but were also given a tour of the facility. It is in such a sad state, it could definitely use some work. There was a weird odor upon entering the building. Then we were introduced to the staff members who work out of a tiny, crowded office. I am not entirely sure about the cleanliness and hygiene at this location. The food supply when we went in wasn't the greatest, however when we were leaving around 4:30 a huge supply that had arrived. I think there should be a better system of offering them the staples, and have them justify their situation. I understand that you cannot turn anyway away but I felt that some people are abusing this system.
