If you're looking for an experience, this is definitely the place. This is a small restaurant run by a couple, chef Ray and Christine, who came out of retirement to do what they love. Chef Ray puts a lot of effort into every dish that is served while Christine does everything else. They only do 1 seating every night (max 2 tables bar) so you can enjoy the Kaiseki experience. Recommend to make a reservation at least one week in advance (they require you to provide credit card # for the reservation). Reservations is easier via text than call since they are 100% focused on the dining customers. Visit the website to find out what chef Ray will be making. Pictures show the Jan 2021 menu without any add ons.

A unique, magical experience that I will never forget. I've had Omakase in numerous places before and this one still stands out. Chef Ray and his wife Christine were so warm and welcoming. Our conversation flowed as if we were old friends... I wish the night didn't end. The food was fresh, balanced and plentiful. Skip lunch, you'll need the space. We sat right at the bar and we saw Chef Ray carefully piece together every dish with the utmost care using quality ingredients; it was a beautiful thing to watch him in action. In conclusion, it's good food with good people. This place may make a dent in your wallet, but it will leave a fond memory in your heart. Thank you, Ray San and Christine.

One of the best experiences I've ever had dining in a restaurant. The food is great as well as the atmosphere. Very easy to interact with the chef. Would come back here again in the near future.

What a wonderful omakase experience. The chef strikes a perfect harmony between textures and flavor. We ordered all their add-ons: Uni, Wagyu & Bluefin o-toro. The bluefin o-toro is so fresh, along with rest of the sashimi. The Wagyu was mouth watering as well. Most omakase's leaves me perhaps satisfied, but often still hungry. I didn't expect to be so full by the end of the night. I left both well fed and extremely satisfied. The price is definitely worth it. We will be back soon!

I wish I could give them 6 stars, as it's only fair when comparing them to the very select few other restaurants I've rated 5 stars previously. Kuroki is head and shoulder above the rest of the (Japanese) restaurants in town. Everything we had that evening was professionally prepared and presented. Blue-fin tuna was the star of the evening. Everything on each of the plates had a purpose and added to the dish. The sequencing and pacing was good. All the little things few customers notice and fewer chefs care, they got right. Portion is on the larger side. Atmosphere was warm and cozy, and service was attentive, as you'd expect from a husband-and-wife team. So glad to have found this place, and I'm already planning my next visit! Make a reservation a few days ahead. Plan for a 3-hour meal. Ample parking on the streets nearby.

Would give this a six star!!!!! A must try authentic Japanese Omakase in Richmond, you experience can go beyond the taste of classic Japanese fine cuisine. Chef is very hospitable and knowledgeable. Food comes in small portion but they add-up! Would recommend no lunch before the meal, you kinda need two stomachs to finish them all \u003c3 As for the price, its def but based on the ingredient and portion of the food, its a total worth.

We loved it. The food were amazing. It was a pleasant experience, we will definitely come back again. The owner & his wife made us feel welcomed. Their hospitality and knowledge of Japanese cuisine makes you feel like you're in Japan. I highly recommend eating their full menu with A5 Wagyu beef and blue fin tuna. Excellent job!! Thank you for sharing your stories with us, it was an awesome experience.

Dining out is not just about good food but experience also make up a big part to what makes people come out to have dinner especially during a pandemic. I have to say Ray San's has nailed every aspect of making what I consider a stunning dine out experience. From talking to him throughout dinner, I can feel his passion about food. He and his wife definitely made the entire dine out experience. He and his wife are extremely friendly and passionate about what they do. I have been to different omakase and by far this one was the best one I have been to. First of all, his omakase is different from what most other places offer. It is a very unique Kaiseki style which is more fun and you get to chill with the chef. It was a dining experience with interactions, not just a normal dining experience where you eat and pay, you actually get to learn about the history and story about the food he serves. Thank you very much Ray San and his wife for such an amazing dining experience and will definitely recommend to everyone I know! Thank you from the 3 guys who wore black shirt and dark blue ;)
