Just be careful of anything you say on the phone or in person because it will likely be forgotten about as rapidly as the cheque clears. In dealing with a property line dispute, Midwest Surveys suggested we get a Real Property Report for 1500 as it would have the best legal standing in court and prove the location of a fence and lot line of a harassing neighbour. When the dispute with the neighbour finally got to a lawyer months later, Midwest wouldn't commit to details, telling them instead they weren't even sure if the measurements they had were for an old fence or a new one on two completely different lot lines. Calling Midwest back ourselves, they understood why we would've hired them for the survey in the first place, but all we really got back was assurance that they double checked and found no messages or emails of our initial discussion, and since it was long enough ago now nobody remembers. Files say we asked for an RPR and that's what we got, so no further details would be given to us, and that the measurements they had for either the old fence or the new fence couldn't be given to us as well. However, we were quickly offered the survey we actually need for an additional 500. Since we already had the properties original Surveyors Certificate, purchasing the Real Property Report here really net us effectively nothing in the way of concrete documentation to prove our case. We can take all the measurements we want off either document ourselves as Midwest has suggested we do, but that won't hold any clout in court. Since posting, Midwest has offered to only charge us an additional 300 to actually complete this survey. Hopefully soon we will have the independent proof we need as to if the neighbour destroyed our property or not.
