This is a bit of a small space so make a reservation double so if it's your anniversary :) Walking in we were awash in a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere with subdued lighting from the chandeliers. Before I get stuck rambling on about the ambiance I have to say the duck is excellent. The dinner for two of us cost just north of 100. I almost feel guilty giving it a 4.

Great food and our waiter was friendly. I ordered the "Tomato tart fine with crisp Parma ham, arugula and Parmesan" for an appetizer and after trying some, everyone else ordered one too. For entree, I had "Berkshire pork tenderloin, bacon wrapped prunes, armagnac and mustard sauce" and it was good, except that I didn't like the mustard sauce. The scalloped potatoes that came with it were fantastic, and I was amazed at how good the prunes were. Overall, it was a fantastic meal. The place is small and has good fancy food with reasonable portions (not tiny gourmet).

Given the average high ranking of the restaurant on Google and on UrbanSpoon, I decided to try this restaurant earlier this week. While I was fairly enthusiastic and impressed when I first entered the restaurant, as the service went on, I became more and more disappointed. First, on a Monday night, with the restaurant half empty, it took almost 45 minutes between ordering and the appetizer being served. Normally, with a long waiting time like that, most restaurants would ask if we'd like more bread, drink, etc. At Pied-a-Terre, such service was non-existent. The waiter did not stop by a single time during this whole time. Finally appetizers arrive. We had the special of the evening, seared scallops. Let's not mention the fact that it looks like deep fried than seared, but the fact that I was give 2 and 1/2 scallops. Here it was, on my plate, in a row, two and half scallops. I promptly asked the waiter on the "half" scallop. His response was even less impressive. He mentioned how a scallop might break when it comes out of the shell, and the restaurant was doing me a favor by giving me extra half of a scallops. Really? Give me 2 or 3, don't teach me about how it might break and I'm getting a good deal. If a scallop breaks in a supermarket they would not sell it. Yet a restaurant dare to serve a customer broken meat and tell the lie that the customer is getting a good deal! After another long wait, entree was served. We had both the duck confit as well as the evening special, duck breast a l'orange. The duck confit is basically same salad as appetizer topped with a different protein, and the duck a l'orange was served with canned orange slices. Again, disappointing.
