This aviation memorial recognises Canada's significant contributions towards the allied forces during World War II. Canada provided a safe area for flight training of military crews. This required Canada's aviation infrastructure to be substantially developed, including; supporting logistics, new aerodromes, aircraft manufacturing and training facilities. Canada also played a substantial role in the development of the United Nation's International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which facilitates international and domestic air travel within all member States.
