I just signed my separation agreement today and I was happy I chose Common Sense Divorce for mediation. We bought the full package deal. Even in unusual COVID times, we were able to meet virtually with a mediator several times, a financial mediator once and then had lawyers look over the separation agreement and our parenting plan and advise us accordingly (also virtually). I was thankful for the mediator when things got heated. She was calm and professional and gave good advice to make things go smoothly. Everything was explained to me and all of my questions were answered from the initial phone call to the day we signed the agreement. Friends who went the lawyer/court route told me of the troubles and headaches they are having with their legal issues. They say I was smart to go the mediation route! Gail Vaz-Oxlade, the founder of Common Sense divorce, is the main reason I chose this company. I wanted to be smart financially. I also wanted to save money by avoiding the high cost of lawyers’ fees. I was happy with the outcome of our financial mediation and I can now start to plan my financial future as a single person.

We had a dirt simple case and we still managed to use up the entire retainer. I can't imagine what a more complex case would cost. It's a bit concerning when their stated goal is to save couples money over the standard mechanism with lawyers. That said it was the necessary interaction with assigned lawyers that was the problem. Documents were full of errors and it took multiple emails back and forth to make corrections. Not impressed by their professionalism at all. Our mediator was great however.
