I began singing lessons to help with my speaking voice. My voice had become gravelly -- I sounded like I had a permanent cold, even when I was healthy. I started singing lessons to help retrieve my normal voice. Within a few lessons, I sounded less gravelly and my throat felt better. At the same time, I discovered a love of singing. I have always thought of myself as a musician, but not a singer. Singing with Jennifer has changed that. It has been a thrill and a challenge to learn to sing. Jennifer is a gifted and devoted teacher in addition to being an active and accomplished professional performer. She is constantly expanding her range of techniques, finding new ways to help her students develop. She fosters a supportive community among her students and provides regular opportunities for us to perform. I wish I had started singing with her years ago, but I'm grateful I'm doing it now.

I signed up as an adult student at Jennifer's studio In late 2017. I have some instrumental music experience from middle and high school, know basic music theory, and have some choir and theatre singing performance experience, but had never taken voice lessons before. Jennifer was a fantastic instructor! In the first lesson we talked about what I wanted to achieve by taking her classes, what styles I'm interested in, and what some of my goals were (including whether or not I was interested in preparing pieces for her year end recital). We also did some simple vocal exercises to help me become aware of my range, and then decided on some pieces to start working on. Right away Jennifer was able to give me suggestions to help me expand my vocal abilities beyond the softer choral styles I was used to singing. Projection, posture, breathing, and resonance were some of the main skills she helped me improve on. It was also helpful that Jennifer would often draw my attention to how a change in technique felt sensation-wise, because it helped me practice paying attention to how my voice and body feel when I am doing all the right things. I ended up participating in a clinic-style class which involved some performing, as well as the year-end recital. It was my first solo voice performance and I had a great time! Jennifer has a way of instilling confidence in her students so that we feel much less shy about singing in front of her and a wider audience. Sadly I've moved out of town and can't continue at Resound Voice Studio, but I highly recommend Jennifer as an instructor, especially to adult students looking to take up a new hobby or get back into music, whether just for fun or to eventually build up to performing! I am so glad I reached out to Jennifer and took a chance on trying something I've always wanted to do!

My son (12) signed up for lessons over the winter with Jennifer and loved it. After the first recital (6 weeks into lessons) we noticed a huge boost in his confidence, not just in singing but in other aspects of his life too! He has become more sure of himself and is now willing to push himself into uncomfortable situations for personal growth. Singing lessons has given him confidence to do school presentations without anxiety, and to go into social situations without hesitation. I'm so thankful we found Jennifer, she is encouraging, positive and really listens to the kids about what they want out of their lessons (while still following a musical education curriculum).
