The organization was founded in 2016 by a group of individuals representing a wide range of experiences within Canada’s space sector, united by one goal - turning Canada into a global leader in the emerging commercial space industry. Commercial space is experiencing unprecedented change and growth for a number of exciting reasons, such as decreasing entry costs, miniaturization, access to data, citizen scientists and the pervasiveness of space technology in every sector. This is opening up opportunities for space technology to radically transform our economies, societies and lives. Additionally, as an industry, we are thinking bigger than ever before. Privately-funded startups are now aiming to colonize the moon, cislunar orbit, asteroids, and so much more. Canada has a proud history within the space industry, yet there are signs that we have been failing to capitalize on the New Space opportunities being recognized by other developed nations. Through a number of grassroots initiatives, including hackathons, info seminars, webcasts, meetups, and much more, MaxQ is striving to build a national culture that embraces the opportunities of tomorrow in this exciting industry. The next generation of great Canadian entrepreneurs will build in space.
