The workers here have always been incredibly kind even when helping me face one of the hardest decisions of my life. I was never made to feel small or like a bad person and I appreciate their services. The animals are incredibly well taken care of and loved. When I first adopted my cat they allowed me to foster first so they would take on all the costs of the medications she needed and we fostered until she was off of them and then adopted. It was thoughtful.

Great place,. Lots of beautiful cats. Although the process is long to get a pet but it's well worth it.

Despite being in a pandemic situation adopting from the Humane Society of Durham was a wonderful experience that was both easy and still kept the safety of visitors and staff as a priority. We adopted a kitten named blue and he's been home with us for four days now. The Humane Society gave us detailed instructions on his feedings and provided some free food and lots of info on the kitty. Great staff doing an amazing job in strange and difficult times.

Despite the pandemic and all of the challenges social distancing has added these amazing humans have continues to go above and beyond to help connect animals with their forever homes. We recently adopted from the hsdr and felt the process was thorough and the volunteers did everything possible to keep us all safe while still allowing us the opportunity to meet potential dogs for adoption. Everything was explained in detail with interviews being conducted via zoom. The staff welcomed us and gave us the space and time with the dogs to make the right decision for our family. I couldn't be happier with the results. We came home informed and ready with our new furbaby in tow. Thank you to everyone at the shelter who made this a wonder experience. Josh (now Tibbs) has settled in and is doing wonderful. If your looking to adopt and are not sure where to start this would be my suggestion. The staff talked to us about the cost of dog ownership, told us what to expect (honestly) and were able to answer all our questions about what we would need and when. Just can't say thank you enough!!!!
