A great place to start over, at 19, I became homeless and was referred to Notre dame. Within a month I got an apartment, had a stable income and was given so much support. Months after leaving the shelter I can still call and ask for help. The staff are wonderful people who care so much about the youth and their wellbeing. If any youth in the Hamilton area become homeless - Notre dame is a very welcoming place.

Dont review this place unless you have been there or worked there. The majority of donations are trashed or taken by management they harass and belittle their employees they dont really care about their staff or the youth but excel at portraying a vibrant accepting loving environment. It is completely fabricated. These people can not be trusted they only show donators what they think people want to see but all of it is fabrication or stretches of the truth. Run.

I would read this wether you're in need or a working staff member. Personally, I have not needed such services in my life however I've had friends and family that I've clearly known and visited, that have. Nonetheless, when I read comments below my very own review, that are similar to the experiences my friends have endured. . Kind of outrages me? Once again, the way I see it is you've got a beautiful concept of helping those in need, however, the STAFF and WORKING PEOPLE there will act in ways that make me want to say or do a lot of things. It's not uncommon or untold of, about how ignorant and unacceptable these staff members are. It is just another group of incompetent, rude and lazy individuals in this terrible city, mistreating and taking advantage of those in need of help the most. It can even get so bad, that they will take advantage of your rights - such as harass you, steal from you or simply take advantage of you in general by ignoring you or treat in you like your 6 years old, only BECAUSE of your desperate situation that you are clearly in and therefore, can not do anything about it. So they do this without 'consequence'. I highly suggest a lawsuit toward them, and for you to find a better shelter. This place is no good for you, and unfortunate as it is to say it; Truthfully, the staff who think themselves as "people" are just horrid and disrespectful individuals. Kind of like an evil little sister who does wicked psychopathic stuff to her younger brother behind closed doors . . But mom & dad think her to be an angel at the dinner table because she presents well. I sincerely hope you read this. Thank you. As for the mistreating Staff at this place? I'm not religious but as the old saying goes; "You can burn in hell" for making these people have harder lives. You're scum. Have a terrible day. Bye.

My girlfriend is a resident here and has a severe case of asthma and the staff is very immature as I have heard. She had an asthma attack so severe she had to go to the hospital in an ambulance. Instead of rushing to help her right away they told her to wait SEVEN Minutes before going to get her puffer. Her heart was close to stopping, she couldn't breathe and her eyes were rolling back in her head. If it hadn't been for one staff member calling an ambulance she would not be here right now

I have found as a mom, the staff have been amazing & supportive in trying to help both myself & my son over the years. Many of these young kids at Notre Dame, are not the stereotypical 'bad' kids. They have had to leave horrible home lives that we don't even want to begin to imagine. There are those kids, of course, that think they don't have to follow house rules etc. That is what happened between my son & I, amongst other things. Good Shepherd & Notre Dame House have put clothes on my son's back, food in his belly & a roof over his head when he & I couldn't live together. They have also provided counselling for the both of us, together & separately. They desperately need donations & support to continue the good work that they do. I don't know where my family would be without them!

We admitted a friend of mine to this location of the Notre Dame house. They took away her life threatening medication, they refused to give it to her the first night, on the second night they claimed that they packed it away and sent it off to a pharmacy, that she was not going to be able to get it back. A dear friend of mine could die due to the immaturity of the staff. The medication was in a standard bottle with her prescription, pharmacy, and doctors name. So far I have spoken to their head office, and the police and newspapers may be getting involved soon. The immaturity of the staff there is life threatening to anyone who is sent here. I strongly URGE you to go to the Barret Centre, or Womens Shelter, as your life is not safe here.

This isn't as serious as an issue as the rest of the reviews but I find it weird. I just purchased a bunch of 2 for 15 piercings from ardenes and a staff member took it from me. Said it's "sharp" so I can't have it, as if I'm 5 years old. Since when has a piercing ever caused serious harm to anyone. Anyways, I was like... Meh whatever no big deal. I'll just get it when I leave. But when I asked where I pick it up from when I'm leaving she said I don't get it back it goes in the sharps container. That shouldn't be allowed... I'm a homeless person.... I JUST paid for those with the money from my pocket which I barely have as it is.... I should be able to get my belongings back. That's basically theft. Since when was it okay to take someone's belongings and decide that you don't have to give it back to them? Even the police have more moral grounds than that. When someone's arrested, they get their belongings as soon as they leave the police station. But I can't get my belongings back from a homeless shelter? Come on, that's pathetic. And that's theft.
