Coquitlam Animal Shelter and Bylaw Officers were the first no-kill shelter in the lower mainland that set a real example for all other animal rescue groups and shelters. Mae Reid, the councillor there, made this her project of love after the SPCA offered their services by offering cheap and irresponsible provision of municipal animal control - the consequences were disastrous. Public workers were replaced by precarious workers earning a fraction of the wage, and a 30 year culling of animals began as the SPCA could not afford to look after the animals with the bids they put in on a race to the bottom model. The animals suffered, services suffered and workers suffered. Another reminder of what happens when privatization is the focus of a government. Great job Mae Reid and City of Coquitlam.

Please consider adopting instead of purchasing pets. The Coquitlam Animal Shelter has many animals up for adoption. From small animals to dogs. The cats there are amazingly sweet and affectionate. There's the cat with the \sad face\ that peers sadly at you through the window everytime you leave, and when you go back in, he's the most affectionate. Please consider adopting him! The staff are friendly and helpful. Amazing place, with gentle animals. Do consider adopting!

Very friendly, and helpful staff. Very considerate of the cats and other animals in their care. Book an appointment ahead of time during the pandemic.

the people that work here are really knowledgeable about even their smallest animals. i was really impressed with the conditions the small animals are kept in, and how in-depth the adoption forms are. they really wanna make sure that these animals go to good people who know how to look after them. overall great shelter!
