There is a wonderful gem of a business situated in Carleton Place by the name of 'Happy Wife Quilting'. This home-based business consists of an impressive trio of services beginning with Long-arming services, including Long-arming instruction for those so inclined; professional, yet fun quilting classes; and finally a huge, generous assortment of quilting/sewing tools and notions as well as some fabrics. After visiting many quilt shops throughout Ottawa and the Valley, we consistently find there is no better assortment of notions nor better prices than at Jen’s. What isn't on her wall, she will do her best to order it in for you. She also offers Gift Certificates for those husbands or family members who want to give the perfect gift to a quilter. I have been sewing on and off for over 45 years but only began quilting 1 1/2 years ago under the tutelage of Jennifer Swallow. I started my first of many, with a beginner class summer of 2016. Jen’s classes take place in her home, with max of 4 students so that each student receives lots of hands-on and knowledgeable assistance. In her classes, Jen provides all the tools you may need, excluding your machine, fabric and thread....she’s even actually provided a sewing machine to a student in one of my classes. We have lots of fun and laughs which says a lot for the type of atmosphere provided by the business owner. As a final note...in response to a comment in one of the previous reviews with reference to “not well advertised”...this home-based business owner fashionably uses the best tool in the business for advertising....... WORD OF MOUTH. There is no better and efficient way to pass around a “good thing” than through avid, fun-loving quilters....a tool which has brought Jen a good deal of success. Bravo Jen!!! Jennifer's shop offers a very personal touch experience. She personally selects all the goodies she sells and stands behind each item - which is great for someone like me who is just starting out on her quilting journey. Highly recommend Happy Wife Quilting! (BTW - Shopping is by appointment only, she runs this business out of her home.)
