We adopt our dog from this facility. It is a great animal shelter and adoption agency. Our dog was neutered and given basic shots and a veterinary exam before we adopt him. He has food allergies, and the shelter accommodated his special needs. As far as I know this is a no kill shelter. It does rely in part on donations.

Whatever the tyrants name is that runs the place is a complete nightmare! Not only to the public but her staff too, someone needs to be knocked down a few pegs!

A very sickly puppy came into my work (a vet clinic) and I called Animal Control as it was a stray, and they took it to their contracted vet clinic for treatment. I mentioned the situation to my mom who happened to be interested in him, a couple days after he was back at the shelter from the vet my mom had sent in an application (knowing that he was still on a stray hold, but she wanted to get her application in before he was available for adoption) only to get a response that \they had no puppies available\... A few days later I found out that they had sent the puppy to foster with someone they knew through the grapevine, needless to say the way they do adoptions is sketchy and its on a \who you know basis\ instead of how it should be which is based on the application. If you are looking for small dogs or puppies you are better off going somewhere else. However, if you are looking for big dogs they have plenty!

What wonderful and caring staff at the FVRD Animal Care Centre! I called, after trying 2 other places and being referred here, regarding a newly-born fawn that had died 12-18 hrs after being born on my property. The mother doe was hovering nearby, under trees, but not approaching her babe. Mum seemed confused and stressed, understandably. I was somewhat upset, plus concerned for the doe. The lovely woman I spoke to on the phone gave me the necessary information re: how they could deal with the deceased fawn. However, more than that, she took the time to be empathetic and understanding of my sadness & concern of removing the fawn's body before the doe was ready. When the officer arrived the following day to pick up the fawn, once again I was met with wonderful kindness and respect. I appreciated the extra minutes the officer took to chat, not offering sympathy, but simply validating my feelings that as beautiful as Nature is, sometimes there are difficult moments. I'm sure the Care Centre staff deal with all types of domestic and wild animals in the course of their duties. They're busy and their work must be routine to them. I certainly appreciated the time and kindness shown to me while performing their jobs. The women whom I encountered deserve an A in all facets!! Thank you so much.
