This shelter is great! I've adopted two rats and one rabbit from this SPCA branch. Don't listen to the negative reviews about people thinking they have dibs on kittens and puppies like they are some commodity. The staff work hard to provide loving shelter and they do their best to place the animals in the homes that are right for them.

The staff and volunteers are great. My husband and I were too late to adopt an available kitten in January and they took the time to look at other locations to see if there were other kittens available. They also recommended another organization to contact. We eventually adopted one kitten at the Surrey SPCA and are adopting another from the West Van branch. The SPCA does amazing work!!

Was trying to adopt a kitten from a friend of mine that was fostering. I'm not sure if it was a disconnect between her and I or she just got conflicting information from Squamish and West Van branches, but was then told I couldn't adopt directly from my friend and had to go through West Van SPCA and fill out an application. okay. So I fill out the application online and their form is terrible. Hit submit about 18 times and it never tells you whether it actually submitted. Apparently it didn't all 18 times because we didn't have the adoption ID # (wasn't given that) and it doesn't TELL YOU that is mandatory information. So after not hearing anything back for a week we finally get someone on the phone just to say they never got our application (fix your submission form!) and that it's unlikely we would be able to adopt one of the kittens. Great! So glad I donate to this stellar organization. I probably won't be again. EDIT: the problem with the form is that because I didn't have the adoption ID (the kittens weren't listed on the site, I just knew about them because my friend was fostering them), I just put \N/A\ in that field. However when you hit submit, it just takes you back up to the top of the form. Apparently it doesn't actually submit it, but it also does not highlight that field as being incorrect or invalid. As I said: FIX YOUR FORM! If a field is invalid or something, you should inform the user of that clearly. And there should be a way to submit an application without an adoption ID #. What if someone just wants a cat and not a particular cat?

This experience went so efficiently and smooth. The staff at West Van SPCA and the Foster cat parent made everything extremely easy and had tons of extra info for me. Also they helped make some arrangements for a script the cat needed at a local vet. This organization operates on an extremely tight budget and performed better than powerful corporations do in most cases. Thank you so much.

Their interview process is great. They do an awesome job of keeping their social media up to date with new animals show cased all the time. They took fabulous care of my dog before she became mine!
